KITCHEN REMODEL FAQS

Know your reasons for the kitchen remodel – what are you hoping to achieve with this project? List any pain points you have with your space. Do you want to boost the resale value of your home? Is the layout awkward and cramped? Do you need more island seating and space for hosting? Knowing your “why” will guide your decisions for the rest of the remodel process! Check out our “Kitchen Design Trends for 2024” as you brainstorm ideas!

It depends on the goals you listed above. If you want a simple refresh with a coat of paint, updated hardware, and new countertops, 10K may be enough to get you there! But for a full remodel with a layout change, custom cabinet line, and high-end tile backsplash, you should plan for a more significant investment.

You should plan to invest between $60,000 and $200,000+ in a kitchen remodel. The investment range will depend on the space's square footage, layout changes, and the number of luxury materials selected. With our Fixed-Cost pricing model, you can rest assured that once you have approved a budget, it will not change without your approval.

Kitchen remodels typically take between 2 and 6 months to complete. Again, this depends on the kitchen’s square footage, the number of layout changes necessary, and whether you are expanding the kitchen’s footprint.

  • “It just doesn’t match.” Walls, cabinets, backsplashes, lighting, and hardware make for a complex visual puzzle when it comes to color! Without a designer's guidance and renderings to visualize the space, some colors may not coordinate as well as they appear to online or in a sample.
  • “I should have added the canned lights.” Lights are a game changer in any space. Pendants, under-cabinet, in-cabinet, sconces, recessed, and under-countertop lighting are not items to skip in your remodel – it will be more expensive to add them later.
  • “I really wanted _____ but…” This kitchen is yours! Give yourself those features you need to make the space more functional for YOU – extra outlets, cabinet inserts, etc. Choose that bold color and the patterned backsplash. Unless you are planning to flip this home, the design options are limitless!

Kitchen remodels in Greenville County require a permit if over $5,000 or if touching the foundation, framing, plumbing, electrical, or HVAC. If you plan to go beyond painting and changing hardware, you will likely need multiple permits. Failure to pull a permit can lead to hefty fines and the inability to sell your house when the time comes. At Ferguson Builders, we take care of all permits, city regulations, and HOA requirements, saving you hours of stress, paperwork, and inspections.

If you have the time and technical skill, going DIY can save you money on your kitchen remodel. However, if you are not experienced in residential construction, a professional can save you from costly mistakes in the long run.

  • Save Time: Forgo all the red tape of remodeling – planning, permits, coordinating with vendors, ordering materials, actual construction labor, and everything in between. Let your builder handle the details with their experience and efficiency.
  • Make Decisions Together: Working with a Design-Build contractor gives you a designer’s expertise in layouts, color, lighting, features, and finishes, so you will not regret anything at the end of your project!
  • Let Go of Stress: Have peace of mind in–process and after, knowing everything is constructed in compliance with building codes and technical specifications.

Consider keeping your existing layout to avoid costly plumbing and electrical work. Paint your existing cabinets, or opt for a semi-custom line of cabinetry instead of fully custom. Choose more cost-effective materials, especially for your backsplash and countertops. Replace items 1 for 1 – for example, replace two pendant lights with two new ones instead of changing the placement or quantity. Our Project Planner will guide you through these and other good cost vs. value decisions for your remodel.

Hire a Fixed-Cost contractor who can give you a comprehensive budget before you sign a construction contract. Read the contract carefully and ensure there are no hidden clauses. This budgeted amount should not change without your approval. Then, clearly communicate your budget to your builder up front and throughout the planning process.
