Simpsonville Deck Remodel
Reason for the Remodel
These homeowners live in the Cobblestone Community in Simpsonville, SC. They had an aging deck that was wearing out and wanted to explore the possibilities for their Outdoor Living space. Our Project Planner met with them to discuss their options and give some recommendations for the direction of the project. They decided to move forward with our Professional Services Agreement and plan the project fully!
The scope of work included the following:
- Redesigned deck (with new surfaces & railings)
- New arbor
- New stair location (for better flow)
- Converting screened porch into a 4-season sunroom
- Retractable screens, radiant heat, a dry bar, and an outdoor projector system below the deck
- Concrete staining for sunroom & pool deck

Sunroom Conversion
The heart of this outdoor space was the existing screened porch. Though our clients loved using this space, they were only really able to enjoy it for a few weeks in the Spring and Fall. Their hope was to make the space usable all year, while preserving their view as much as possible. The new 4-Season Sunroom is climate-controlled with a mini-split air conditioning system. It features three walls of windows and glass doors with transoms above to let in as much natural light as possible. Even the pets were considered in this space – our team designed a custom doggy door (within a glass door!) for the family’s rescue dog.
Arbor Addition
This side of the home sees a lot of sun during the summer. We designed a natural wood arbor to provide partial shade and add architectural appeal. Known for durability, these stained cedar beams will withstand the elements much better than a plastic or vinyl product, which would fade and crack in direct sunlight. Cedar is naturally resistant to decay and insects, so it was the perfect choice for this arbor.
Deck & Staircase Redesign
The layout of the existing deck stairs did not function well for our clients. They offered no direct access to the pool area, and instead wrapped around the side of the property, making each trip downstairs a rather lengthy journey. Our design team drafted plans for an additional staircase leading directly to the patio below. The incorporated landing is extra-large to accommodate a grill for maximum use of space. Even the deck railings were designed intentionally, featuring a built-in drink rail for added convenience.
Outdoor Movie Space
This awesome space under the deck was underutilized, so we added a few features that made it a more practical hangout spot. Retractable screens allow for more flexibility – up for summer pool parties as guests come in and out, down for evening movie nights to prevent mosquitoes from entering. Radiant heaters ensure this space can be used year-round. Other elements included new ceiling fans, a bar area, and a drop-down projector screen.
Deck Remodel: Complete
