Home Office Addition in Greenville, SC

Since the pandemic in 2020, many employees enjoy the solitude of working from the comfort of their own home, whether fully remote or with a hybrid schedule. We’ve seen a huge demand for homes to have more dedicated workspaces – something that many people did not need to consider when they bought their current home. With elevated home prices and high interest rates, it often makes sense to add space instead of moving to a new home entirely.

This was the case for this home office addition in Greenville, SC. Our clients love their home and its central location, but needed more space: a home office for him, and a pilates studio for her. Projects like this Greenville home addition are what we’re truly passionate about – customizing your home to work for you. Anything is possible – see this 1200 sqft Addition Project for a client’s forever home.

Before After

Home Office Addition in Greenville, SC

The obvious place to add on was the right side of the home. During the planning phase, our design team crafted a layout that includes a home office, studio, and full bath. The homeowners enjoyed the natural light in this nook of their kitchen and wanted to preserve that element, so we incorporated plenty of windows into the new design.

Before After

One key element of planning an addition is blending the old and new materials. For this project, we needed to make sure the new floors were framed to the exact height of the existing hardwoods and blended into each other seamlessly! We matched the species of wood, wove the new floors into the old, and refinished all the floors at once. The transition is invisible, making it feel like the office was always there!

Home Studio Addition

Our client is a pilates instructor, and she had outgrown her old studio space. On the other side of the office addition is the home studio addition! We used a vaulted ceiling to make the space feel as open as possible! Large windows let in natural light, enhancing the room's serenity. With a full closet, this space increases the bedroom count to 4, boosting the resale potential.

Bathroom Addition for Home Studio

Attached to the studio space is a full bathroom for clients’ use and privacy. Part of the new addition, this bathroom is outside the footprint of the original home, which allowed us to integrate it with the exterior chimney! Handmade ceramic tiles, bronze finishes, and a stunning slab of blue quartzite add color and texture to the room.

Primary Bath Remodel

As part of this Greenville home addition project, the homeowners decided to remodel their Primary Bathroom as well. While the original layout was functional, it lacked the sense of luxury they envisioned (see more luxury bathroom features). This “remove and replace” remodel refreshed the space with updated finishes and fixtures throughout. The green tile throughout is an artisan-made ceramic tile that adds subtle character with its imperfect finish. The tile continues in the adjoining vanity room with a mosaic backsplash, pulling the entire space together.

Before After

Along with an aesthetic upgrade, our clients wanted to incorporate a steam shower into their primary bathroom. Steam showers are not a common request, but our team has built several over the years. A steam shower provides a spa experience at home, offering therapeutic benefits for skin, joints, muscle recovery, circulation, and more.

Another luxury feature is the heated, jetted drop-in tub, equipped with chromotherapy! We worked with a local fabricator to create a custom surround designed to look like a single block of quartzite. The same material extends to the shower bench, seamlessly pulling the space together.

Exterior Remodel

An addition project is the perfect opportunity to refresh your home’s exterior, since the necessary trades (framers, siding, roofers, etc.) are already on site. Our clients wanted to update the overall look and feel of the exterior. We replaced the dated shingle siding with a fiber-cement board-and-batten-style siding, a durable composite material that provides a clean, updated aesthetic and will long outlast a traditional wood siding.

In addition to the new siding, we built a covered porch over the front door to add architectural dimension and provide shelter from the elements. The porch features a stained concrete floor and a painted tongue-and-groove ceiling. A fiberglass front door, along with new windows and shutters, completes the transformation and enhances the home’s curb appeal with a fresh, modern look.
