Exterior Remodel in Piedmont SC
Before: Reason for the Remodel
Situated on a sprawling lot outside of Piedmont, SC, this charming country home had a lot going for it but lacked the curb appeal the homeowners envisioned. After previously adding a sunroom with durable fiber cement Hardie Board siding, the owners were ready to continue the transformation around the rest of their home to be fully Hardie Board.
Fiber Cement Siding: A Smart Upgrade
When it comes to exterior renovations, Fiber Cement Siding has become the industry leader, and for good reason. It’s known for its durability and minimal maintenance requirements, so it’s an easy choice for homeowners looking to invest in long-lasting improvements. This material is not only resistant to intense weather conditions, it’s also immune to the harsh UV rays of the sun. Unlike wood, fiber cement won’t rot or warp over time, and unlike traditional vinyl, it doesn’t fade or become brittle.
The homeowners opted for James Hardie 8-1/4" lap siding to match the siding on their previous addition. The clean look of this siding immediately enhanced the home’s overall charm, while keeping the texture of natural wood products.
Efficient Add-ons: Window Replacement
Since we were already working on replacing the siding, this was the perfect opportunity to tackle other exterior upgrades, starting with new windows. The homeowners selected Wincore Double Hung Vinyl Windows, which looked great with the fresh siding and also brought enhanced energy efficiency to their home. These windows are engineered to reduce heat loss during the cooler months and keep the home cool in the summer, helping to reduce energy costs throughout the year. Plus, like the siding, they’re constructed with vinyl that requires minimal upkeep.
Other Upgrades
Our clients also wanted to make some upgrades to the porch. Old wooden deck boards were replaced with Trex Composite decking and railings, another maintenance-friendly swap. Gutters and several of the shutters were replaced as well. The final touch was a coat of Benjamin Moore HC 172 Pewter for all the exterior siding.
A Porch Transformation
Another key part of this remodel was giving the front porch a facelift. The homeowners wanted a porch that would look appealing but require less maintenance than their old wooden deck boards. We replaced the aging boards with Trex Composite Decking, a durable material that resists fading and doesn’t peel. Composite decking, unlike traditional wood, is also resistant to moisture and won’t splinter, making it a safe and long-lasting option for high-traffic outdoor areas.
To tie the whole look together, we installed matching Trex Composite Railings for a cohesive, low-maintenance solution. The new porch not only enhances the home’s exterior but also provides a functional outdoor space where the homeowners can enjoy their country surroundings without worrying about constant upkeep.
The Final Result
Although no major structural changes were made, the results of this exterior remodel completely changed the look of the home. The combination of Hardie Board Siding, new windows, and Trex Decking give the home a more polished look. The homeowners are thrilled with the upgrades and the significant value they have added to the property. With its fresh exterior, energy-efficient windows, and low-maintenance porch, this home looks like a feature in Southern Living! The homeowners now have a beautiful, durable, and efficient home exterior that will serve them well for years to come.
